There's nothing new with some priest’s blogging for the past few years but this somehow comes as a great surprise for everybody because of the Pope's open view on using multimedia as a way to connect to the faithful and touch other people's lives in a whole new different way - Blogging.
If you come to think of it, the challenge for most priests today is to make sure that they put their message across to their locals apart from having them to take part in church services. Due to the kind of popular lifestyle people live with nowadays, the idea of going to church or participate in religious worship service has somehow become a second priority.
It is alarming to note that even though Catholic churches in European countries are gigantic, only a few faithful actually go to Church masses. The statistics is somehow different in the Philippines where the people are predominantly Catholic. But even so, the Catholic Church is still wary about the decreasing number of people going to mass.
Pope now encourages priests to connect with members of their immediate communities through the use of multimedia devices available for them on the net. While this is a good direction to take, somehow, blogging might be easier said than done in actuality with some priests are technically challenged to even use the Internet. But I am still hoping that this will materialize soon and more priests will be seen online and the Catholic Church will begin a new era where it will use technology in encouraging non-believers to sign up.

Yup! I heard about this news from an ex-seminarian blogger friend. Pope is correct 100% anyway. It will really be nice to use the internet in promoting what the church should be preaching.
